These partnerships not only recognize their exceptional skills but also serve as a testament to our commitment to preserving traditional craftsmanship.
In addition, Farak has formed a strategic partnership with the Chippa community from the Bagru region, renowned for their expertise in block printing. Through this collaboration, we have integrated mud resist techniques into our block printing processes, adding depth and intricacy to our designs while supporting local artisans and their age-old traditions.
Furthermore, we are deeply committed to women's empowerment, exemplified by our partnerships with rural women artisans. By providing these women with opportunities to showcase their talents and contribute to our collections, we aim to foster economic independence and social empowerment within their communities.
Another milestone for Farak is the incorporation of Sanganeri block printing techniques into our garments. This traditional printing method adds a unique flair to our designs, paying homage to the rich heritage of Indian textile craftsmanship
Our partnership with artisans from Ajrakhpur for Ajrakh block printing holds a special significance as it forms the core of Farak's identity. DIVE INTO
THE C R A F T S
At Farak, we revere the ancient art of hand block printing, a tradition that transcends through the pieces we create. Dating back to the 12th century, this exclusive process is a testament to history's rich tapestry. Passed down through generations, it demands artistry, skill, and unwavering patience. Each print begins as a hand-drawn design, exclusively carved onto wooden blocks. The precision of this craft, honed through years of apprenticeship, is evident in every element of the design, each requiring its own block. As colors are stamped onto the fabric, the process unfolds slowly, reflecting the dedication of the artisans involved. The rhythmic ‘knocking’ of the block hitting wood plays as a harmonious reminder of their tireless work. Farak proudly collaborates with these artisans, blending traditional techniques with contemporary traditonal patterns inspired by art and nature. Our mission is to revive and promote this heritage craft, ensuring its timeless beauty is cherished worldwide.
Browsing through the pages of history, looms have played a pivotal role in the cultural and economic evolution of societies worldwide for over 1000 years. Hand-weaving is a precise manual technique where the motion of the handloom is operated by skilled human hands without the use of electricity. It's not merely about interlacing yarns in a repetitive style to create fabric; it's a labor-intensive process that can take a weaver anywhere from 8 to 10 days, or even several months, to weave a 5-meter cloth. Precision is paramount, especially when incorporating designs with dyed yarns. The intersection of the warp and weft threads requires careful attention to detail to achieve the desired design. Farak is deeply committed to transforming handspun and handwoven fabrics into a canvas for artistic expression, aiming to narrate India's rich history and potential through textiles.
Handmade" at Farak represents a profound commitment to the intricate artistry that goes into crafting each garment. It transcends the mere use of handspun or handwoven fabric, or the application of hand embroidery or block printing on digitally printed fabric. It embodies a fine process where every detail is carefully considered. Considerable time and thought are invested in selecting the appropriate handwoven/handspun fabric that will facilitate further hand embroidery, block printing, or appliqué within a specified timeframe. Farak's dedication to "handmade" extends beyond individual techniques. It involves collaborating with artisans from diverse backgrounds and regions, each bringing their unique skills and traditions to the craft. It also entails sourcing materials from select vendors who share our commitment to quality and sustainability. Ultimately, Farak's approach to "handmade" is about creating garments that are more than just clothing. They are wearable works of art, each telling a story of collaboration, skill, and passion for preserving traditional crafts on a global scale.
